Hi! My name is Carolyn Hales. I play the violin, have been involved in Orchestra for 7 years and am the President of Darby Orchestra. I am in senior class cabinet and am the service chair. I am also in National Honor Society. I am on leadership team for my youth group and my catholic faith is very important to me. My biggest passion, however, is serving those around me, especially kids. In my free time I love volunteering as much as I can. I have volunteered 250+ hours since June 2017.

For my senior capstone, I decided to focus on my journey through volunteering and how it has transformed my heart and has shown me the career path I plan to take after high school. My volunteerism journey all started the summer after my sophomore year when I was nominated as the ambassador from Darby for the 2017 HOBY Ohio South Leadership Seminar. I was surrounded by constant energy, positivity, love and passionate people. This environment paired with phenomenal speakers and activities made me realize my potential as a leader and in order to go back on staff the next summer, which I did, I would need 100 hours of service. So the journey began, and through hundreds of hours of volunteering with kids, I discovered my passion for inspiring youth to see their potential as people and leaders and to ensure that children feel loved and accepted. Therefore, I also discovered my future career path to major in secondary education and potentially double major in theology to become an English teacher or potentially a youth minister or religion teacher to combine all three of my passions; inspiring youth, writing/reading and my faith.
